White Plains Man Pleads Guilty to Purchase Rape

A White Plains man who tried to force himself on a female student in her SUNY Purchase dorm room this November pleaded guilty to attempted rape and burglary charges for the attack, the Westchester County District Attorney announced Wednesday.

Dante Beamon, 26, pled guilty one count of attempted rape in the first-degree and one count of burglary in the second-degree. Both charges are felonies. He faces up to 15 years in state prison when he is sentenced August 2.

According to Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore, Beamon entered the bedroom area of a Purchase dorm at about 1:30 a.m. on November 13, 2010. He demanded the student remove her clothing and told her they were going to have sex.

The student repeatedly asked Beamon to leave. He responded by strangling her with a piece of clothing, which initiated a struggle. The student escaped and sought help.

University, Harrison, and Rye police officers collaborated to track down and arrest Beamon on the Purchase campus in Harrison. He was taken to the Westchester County Jail.
