The award goes to libraries that through construction efforts have had significant impacts on providing increased services to its communities.

“Public Libraries Section board is impressed with White Plains Public Library's well-planned and strategic building project that addresses the needs of its community and the future goals of the library,” PLS President Sara Dallas said in a press release.

Only two libraries in New York receive the Building Award each year.

PLS officials were particularly impressed with The Edge at the White Plains Public Library. The teen section, which includes a technology lab, opened in December 2013.

The Edge is phase one of a three-phase renovation of the first floor of the library.
