WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. The $152.4 million budget and a 5 percent property tax rate increase proposed Monday sound good to White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach.
"I am pleased that the proposed budget is below the state's recently enacted property tax cap despite continued increases in mandated costs and without any immediate mandate relief from the state," Roach said in a statement. "I look forward to working with my Council colleagues to further review this proposal with the goal of enacting a budget that provides cost-effective and efficient services for our taxpayers."
The mayor's office released the following list of budget work sessions and public hearings for residents who wish to learn more about the fiscal plan or to give City Hall feedback on the budget:
The Common Council will meet with the Budget and Management Advisory Committee to run through the budget overview and discuss fee increases at 6 p.m. April 9.
The Common Council will review public works expenditures at 6 p.m. April 16.
City Hall will examine parking and public safety spending at 6 p.m. April 26.
The council will discuss library, youth bureau, and recreation and parks expenditures at 6 p.m. April 30.
The council will hold a public hearing on the proposed budget at 7:30 p.m. May 7.
City Hall will finalize the budget at a 6 p.m. "decision night" meeting May 14.
The Common Council will vote on adopting the fiscal plan at 7:30 p.m. May 21.
