"Walking into those new doors a year from now is walking into our future,'' said Susan Fox, hospital president. "Over the past few years, we have been investing heavily in our facility for the benefit of our patients."
In addition to a new glass-enclosed lobby facing Davis Avenue, the patient tower will include 24 new private rooms, additional state-of-the-art operating rooms and a new labor/delivery suite. It's the largest reconstruction project in the hospital's 121-year history. The hospital also is expanding its Cancer Center.
White Plains Mayor Tom Roach and Deputy Westchester County Executive Kevin Plunkett praised the nursing staff and quality of care provided by the 292-bed hospital at 41 East Post Road.
"I'm very proud of these changes,'' said Chief Executive Officer Jon Schandler who is handing over leadership to Fox after 38 years -- just as White Plains Hospital partners with the Montefiore Health System.
The hospital's emergency room is the busiest in the county, with more than 55,000 visits annually. Schandler said the hospital also carried out more than 14,000 surgeries last year and delivered more than 2,000 babies.
