WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. A Shop Rite security guard smelled something fishy when he saw a 28-year-old Fisher Avenue man stuffing [$51.86-worth of] seafood into a bag in the back of the White Plains grocery store April 20.
The guard called the police and told them he saw the White Plains man select four blue crabs and two 31-count bags of shrimp. He said the suspect went to the back of the store and hid the items in a yellow Shop Rite bag before walking out without paying. Police arrested the man and charged him with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, and held him for court. The stolen seafood had a value of $51.86.
Police responded to three other shoplifting reports the same day, including two at the Walmart at 275 Main St.
A 27-year-old Ossining woman was arrested and charged with petit larceny in connection with the theft of nine cosmetic items. A Walmart store guard told police he saw the suspect hide the items in a brown paper bag she was carrying at the bottom of her shopping basket. While using the self-checkout, she paid for two bowls, a black vase, a pot and a vacuum cleaner, totaling $135.32, but not the items in the bag. Security stopped her from leaving and recovered the items. Police arrested the woman, who was later released on $500 bail.
Earlier that day, a 25-year-old Ossining woman was with taking items worth $67.41 from Walmart.
A guard told police he saw her collect 11 cosmetic items, one pharmacy item, one health and beauty item and two books while walking around the story and put them inside her black and white North Face purse. When she attempted to walk out of the store, security stopped her and held her for police. She was charged with petit larceny and sent to city court for arraignment.
Down the block on Main Street, a 20-year-old Yonkers woman was charged with stealing three bags worth a total of $484 from Macy's in the White Plains Galleria.
A guard told police he saw her take two Michael Kors bag, worth $198 and $158, and a gold Michael Kors purse, worth $128, from a display. She hid the items in a Macy's shopping bag and tried to leave the store through the second-floor mall exit. Police arrested her and charged her with petit larceny. Bail was set at $500.
