WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains first responders honored Rev. Lester Cousin for his 26 years of service as chaplain for the public safety department this Wednesday.
Cousin recently announced his plans to retire from the Calvary Baptist Church, where he has worked as the pastor for nearly four decades, and move back to his native Nashville.
David Chong, the citys public safety commissioner, and Thomas Roach, mayor, presented Cousin with a retired chaplain's shield and certificate of appreciation at police headquarters Wednesday.
"Reverend Cousin is one of a kind and we can never replace him," Roach said in a press release. "Thank you so much for all you've done."
Cousin said he will miss White Plains and his "family" at the public safety department when he moves south this November.
"White Plains has become a metropolis, Cousin said in a press release. We have a lot of buildings now. But really, we're still that small, diverse community of people working together to get things done that we were when I first got here.
