According to Bedford 2020, 14 municipalities in Westchester County have overwhelmingly adopted 100 percent renewable energy as part of the Westchester Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program.

Recently, Audrey Zibelman , New York State’s commissioner of Public Service, announced that the PSC would build on the success of the Westchester program and expand community choice aggregation statewide.

Business leaders, investors, local elected leaders and policy makers, representatives from low-income communities, and environmental leaders will convene on Thursday to duscuss how to increase renewable energy and energy efficiency in Westchester and New York State.

They will discuss expanding CCAs, development of renewable energy, energy storage and electric vehicles, among other things.

The event, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the center at 11 City Place, will include speakers:

  • Audrey Zibelman, chair, New York State Public Service Commission
  • Kate Burson, Northeast market development lead, Tesla Motors
  • David Sandbank, director, NY-Sun, NYSERDA
  • Micah Kotch, director of NY Prize & Strategic Adviser for Innovation NYSERDA
  • Mike Gordon, Co-Chair Sustainable Westchester; chief executive officer Joule Assets
  • Glenn Weinberg, interim program director, Westchester Power; director of Community Programs, Joule Assets
  • Karl Rábago, Executive director, Pace Energy and Climate Center

Community Choice Aggregation has the potential to spur other energy solutions such as community solar, micro grids, storage batteries and demand response. CCA is a tool in transitioning New York away from fossil fuels and toward cleans energy by increasing consumers’ bargaining muscle, and bringing down the cost of utility-scale renewable energy.
