White Plains Commissioner Says City On High Alert

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Public safety officials are on high alert following the bombings at the Boston Marathon and are ramping up security measures as a precaution in White Plains, Public Safety Commissioner David Chong said.

There will be increased inspections of all White Plains malls, houses of worship, schools, community centers, government buildings, hotels, public events and transportation points. But, Chong said, there is no indication of a threat to the White Plains area. The department is in constant contact with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, which is the lead agency in the investigation, he added.

“We ask people to be extra vigilant, while we in law enforcement figure out who was behind these bombings and the reason,” said Chong said, who reminds residents that if you see something, say something.

The two explosives that went off soon after winners were announced Monday sent 176 people to hospitals due to injuries from the blast, 17 of them in critical condition, Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said.

There were five White Plains residents entered in the Boston Marathon Monday, two of which finished before the incident.
