WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Fall has revived several White Plains boards and commissions that took a break over the summer, making it a brisk week for city hall. Here's a look at what's being discussed:
The board of education will hold a special meeting at 5 Homeside Ln. at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The board plans to consider renewing consulting agreements with the Coachman Family Center, which helps out with after school programs, and Manhattanville College, which assists with a Hispanic outreach tutorial program. Substitute teachers appointments, interscholastic positions, and miscellaneous stipends will also be discussed.
The conservation board will convene at 8 p.m. in city hall Monday. The board expects to continue discussions on Metropolitan Plaza's 130-room hotel on Main Street, zoning amendments that would create an open space recreation district in White Plains, and the French-American School of New York's application for a special permit allowing the school to build a campus at the former Ridgeway Country Club. A 10-unit town house complex near 43 Holland Ave. will also be considered. The board will also analyze the White Plains Bus Company's intention to build a bus facility at 139 Westmoreland Avenue. The planning board plans to meet at 7 p.m. in the council chambers Tuesday. Residents are invited to share their opinions on New Singular Wireless' application to install cellular antennas at 400 Hamilton Ave, 155 Ferris Ave., and 464 North St.
The public may also discuss Nicholas and Anne Penachio's plan to alter their 42 Sammis Ln. home. The board also expects to discuss the Salvation Army's goal of expanding its house of worship south on New York Post Road, the German School of New York's intention to increase enrollment from 375 to 500 students, and the French-American School of New York's special permit application to operate a private school at the former Ridgeway Country Club. The White Plains Public School District will hold a middle school redesign forum Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room b-1 of the high school. Parents and guardians are invited to learn about why White Plains is considering alternating the middle school model as well as the benefits and drawbacks of an all sixth-grade academy and other models. Questions and opinions on the middle school redesign are welcome.
