The hike will be led by Dr. Scott Mori, the Nathaniel Lord Britton Curator of Botany at the New York Botanical Garden. An expert in local plants, Mori will point out the diversity and beauty of the preserve’s wildflowers. He also will address long-term efforts to inventory all of the preserve’s plants, and his work with the land trust on plant conservation strategies.
The 150-acre Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve is on Upper Shad Road in Pound Ridge, and is considered to be one of the land trust's flagship preserves. It boosts extensive wetlands and majestic woodlands with rare wildlife, plants, dramatic rock formations, soring tulip trees and dozens of species of birds, and an eight-mile trail network
Although this will be a relaxed nature walk, suitable for all ages, proper footwear and field clothing is recommended. This hike is free although space is limited. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday, May 14.
