The award is named after Frank Hogan, who served as the New York County (Manhattan) district attorney for 32 years. Hogan, who died in 1974, is credited with creating the modern day prosecutor’s office. Fiore won the award for being "a prosecutor who best exemplifies the values for which Frank Hogan stood: prosecution of the guilty without fear or favor, non-partisan staffing, an insistence on the highest ethical standards among all assistant district attorneys and pursuit of excellence in the practice of law," according to a release.

DiFiore was nominated for the award by her peers from district attorney offices in New York's 62 counties.

"This year’s Hogan Award recipient and past president of DAASNY, District Attorney Janet DiFiore has dedicated her career to public service as both a former Judge and a prosecutor in Westchester County, New York," representatives said.

DiFiore was elected district attorney in 2005 and re-elected in 2009 and 2013.

“The Hogan Award honors a district attorney who best exemplifies the values for which DA Hogan stood – integrity and an unwavering commitment to justice and fairness for all – and DA DiFiore is a wonderful example of this as confirmed by her peers in the DA’s Association of the State of New York,” said Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, president of DAASNY.

“I am deeply honored to have been chosen as this year’s recipient of the District Attorneys Association Frank S. Hogan Award," said DiFiore. "The qualities DA Hogan embodied as a prosecutor, honesty, non partisanship and incorruptibility, are the very same qualities that I have strived to achieve throughout my career as an assistant district attorney, Judge and now District Attorney. To receive this honor in DA Hogan’s name and be among the distinguished list of previous award recipients is truly gratifying."
