Westchester Ballet's 'Nutcracker' Brings Holiday Joy

WHITE PLAINS N.Y. – Those who attended the Westchester Ballet Company’s 2012 production of  "The Nutcracker" on Sunday at the Westchester County Center in White Plains said seeing the performance was one way to get into a holiday mood.

"A lot of the kids these days have every kind of toy, every kind of gadget and all” said Crystal Clemente of Pelham, who brought her niece, Sophia, from Long Island. “I thought taking my niece to a show would be wonderful, entertaining and much more memorable than some sort of a gift that they might not remember.”

Was Sophia excited about the show?

"Yes!" was her simple answer.

Lisa Schwartz of Briarcliff Manor, who came with her daughter, Ava and son, Ethan, said she and her family “were gearing up to gear down for a little bit, and help everybody else celebrate the holidays” after Hanukkah.

Schwartz added that Ava was hoping to be a mouse in a future "Nutcracker" production “in a few years when she gets bigger.”

Some took advantage of The Nutcracker for more than holiday celebrations.  Valerie McGuinty of Monroe, N.Y., came with her son, Joseph, who is celebrating his birthday on Monday, and also brought friends visiting from New Jersey and California.

Katherine Sabroff of Yonkers brought her son Sammy with hopes of starting an “annual tradition [of seeing The Nutcracker with her kids] now that they’re old enough to enjoy it.”
