Legislation was proposed earlier this week that would reverse a controversial provision tucked into an approved budget bill that allowed companies that collect debt for the federal government to use robocalling technology to call borrowers’ cellphones without their permission.
Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and a group of his colleagues argue that, among other things, the calls cost users valuable pre-paid minutes.
Proponents say the calls give borrowers options, preventing defaults.
