Suspect Arrested in White Plains Shooting

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Police have arrested a man Saturday and are still out searching for a second suspect believed to be involved in the brazen daylight shooting of a teen near busy Delfino Park Friday afternoon.

Officers expect to charge the arrested man with first-degree assault, a class-B felony, criminal use of a weapon, also a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, according to Public Safety Commissioner David Chong.

The young man was taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla with three gunshot wounds and is now in critical but stable condition. It is unclear whether the victim has spoken with police about the details of the shooting and what the motive might have been.

Police received calls about a shooting behind a Lake Street building around 4 p.m. Friday.  The area where the shooting took place is not far from Interstate 287 and the nearby West Harrison neighborhood of Silver Lake.

The victim collapsed between two cars just east of the the Lake Street and N. Kensico Avenue intersection, according to Neil Coitino, who dialed 9-1-1 when he heard two gun shots from his office.

"He was still standing, but you could tell he was going to faint any second. He collapsed and his eyes rolled back. That's about when the police arrived, so I pointed to where he was," said Coitino, general manager of A&C Auto Body.

Police previously said both suspects were male. The ongoing investigation is still "very active," according to Chong.
