Scenes of White Plains' Juneteenth Day Celebration

Crowds lined the streets Saturday to cheer along the Juneteenth Day parade.

Over 60 community organizations, sports teams, bands, dance ensembles and religious groups from Westchester County marched in what has become White Plains' largest parade and the biggest Juneteenth Day parade in Westchester County.

Grand Marshal Rev. Dr. Lester Cousin, of Calvary Baptist Church, led the parade up from where Mamaroneck Avenue meets Old Mamaroneck Avenue to the steps of city hall.

The Juneteenth Day Celebration, which marks the June 19 date of American slaves' liberation and celebrates African heritage, continued with a festival behind the Thomas H. Slater Center. The festival featured 17 music, poetry, dance, and fashion show performances as well as art, clothing, and food vendors.
