Powerball Jackpot Hits $500M As Drawing Grows Closer

Area residents are dreaming of riches as the Powerball Jackpot has climbed to an estimated $500 million before Wednesday night's drawing. 

No one matched all six numbers in the Saturday, Jan. 2 drawing for Powerball, which means the jackpot has now swelled to $450 million.

The $450 million jackpot is the sixth-highest of all-time, with the largest being $656 million from the Mega Millions lottery game in 2012, according to CNN Money. 

The current Powerball grand prize would pay out an estimated $275.4 million. 

The drawing will be held Wednesday night at 11 p.m.
