Police: White Plains Death Likely a Suicide

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A 55-year-old White Plains woman who died Sunday night is believed to have jumped to her death from her apartment building at 41 Barker Ave., police said.

"We won't know for sure until the medical examiner comes back and gives us an official report, but we're leaning towards a suicide," Public Safety Commissioner for the City of White Plains David Chong said Monday afternoon.

The woman, whose name has not be released, lived in the Kingsley House apartment complex. Yellow police tape blocked the sidewalk directly in front of the building Sunday night as police investigated the incident.

One resident of the building said a fellow tenant knocked on his door to tell him someone had jumped from the building and died, though neither knew who it was.

Police are awaiting the medical examiner's findings.
