Police: Shoplifters Caught in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Police busted up a drug deal in a Chester Avenue in White Plains parking lot April 21 and charged a Mount Vernon man, 26, with unlawful possession of marijuana, according to a police report.

The suspect was standing in the open lot when he was approached by an unknown person, who the police report states looked around suspiciously before handing him a clear plastic bag with the alleged marijuana and a blue metal pipe. He then placed it into his back left pocket and started to leave the lot.

Police watching on a surveillance camera stopped the suspect and asked to search him. The man, wearing a white sweatshirt and dark colored jeans, put his hands in the air and said "no problem," police said. The officer found the items, then placed him under arrest. He was released on his own recognizance and is due back in city court May 9 at 9:30 a.m.

The following incidents were also reported to the City of White Plains Public Safety Department:

Petit Larceny: A Bronx man, 42, was arrested and charged with petit larceny, a class "A" misdemeanor, for stealing two Carlson shirts, worth $78, from a display in Nordstram in the Westchester. While police processed him at headquarters, they found a small green pill inside a yellow metal container in the suspect's shopping bag and charged him with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, also a class "A" misdemeanor. They believe it to be oxycontin, a schedule 2 controlled substance. He was being held on $500 bail.

Grand Larceny: A Yonkers man, 45, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a class "E" felony for stealing two television sets, worth $498, from Wal-Mart on April 21. Police said the suspect left with the two 42-inch LCD televisions in his black Jeep Liberty SUV. While driving down Hamilton Avenue, police pulled him over and had a Wal-Mart security guard, who said he saw the suspect take the two items, identify it was the same person. He was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, and held for court. The vehicle was impounded by Alex and son.

Petit Larceny: A Bronx man, 52, was arrested and charged with petit larceny for stealing 31 Polo shirts, worth $992, from Macy's in the White Plains Galleria Mall.
