Police Recover Bacardi During DWI Arrest

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Police say a Port Chester man was charged with driving while intoxicated after an officer discovered him sleeping behind the wheel beside an open Bacardi bottle.

An officer noticed a grey 2002 Acura TL parked with its engine running in one of Central Avenue's traffic lanes at approximately 2:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police say Domingo Loja was slumped over, sleeping in the driver's seat while his keys remained in the ignition.

A knock on the window roused Loja, who police reports say then attempted to put his car into drive, but was too intoxicated to do so.

The officer said he took Loja's keys and watched him stumble out of the car. The man refused to take a sobriety test on Central Avenue or chemical tests at police headquarters.

He was arrested and charged with one count of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
