WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Whether its providing a young musician with a starter piano or helping a practiced student further his or her craft, Faust Harrison Pianos in White Plains prides itself on being a resource for all artists.
The retailer of new and refurbished pianos hosted a gala event Saturday to celebrate a new partnership with the Music Conservatory of Westchester. As a preview of what's to come, the evening included tours of the facility and a series of musical performances over hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.
Sophie Lee, a 7th grader from Yorktown Heights, Matt Beilis, a singer and songwriter from New York City, Chris and Linette Pfund and Paul Van Ness were just a few of the performances this Saturday night.
Irving Faust, the company's co-owner and head of marketing, said the connection with the Music Conservatory of Westchester will allow his family to play a hands-on role in the local community.
We realized we had the opportunity to participate in the recreation of White Plains by finding the greatest local talent and giving them the venue to perform, he said of the piano centers upcoming concert series.
And he isnt just talking about musical talent. As they marveled at the new and refurbished Steinways and Yamaha instruments, Saturday's guests marveled at Piano as Art: a series of wall art creations made from discarded piano parts like the keys and pedals.
Penny Putnam and Shauna Holiman, the artists behind the work, said they agreed the finished products helped portray the classic musical instrument in a new light.
This is our series of projects where people can look at something they thought they knew so well and see that art comes out of it, said Holiman.
Faust Harrison Pianos will also lend its collection of technologically advanced keyboard instruments, such as the Yamaha Clavinova and Yamaha Avantgrand into programs at the Music Conservatory of Westchester.
The next on-site concert will be a performance by pianist Frederic Chiu on Nov. 11. Chiu has performed at prestigious halls including Lincoln Center in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and the Berlin Philharmonic in Germany. Click here for more information.
