While the popularity of ramen -- the super-delicious and savory noodle soup -- has grown across the country the past few years, it has remained the perfect dish for a cold winter day, according to the Business Insider.
Foursquare, the city-guide app for finding new places to eat, found a 25 percent increase in "ramen" mentions during the last year. Check out its picks below for local shops.
- Fairfield, Conn.: Fairfield's Mecha Noodle Bar makes a fine bowl of pho and Japanese ramen, but also offers a hidden delight besides ramen, the KFC bao, it's like fried chicken on a fluffy bun. Located at 1215-5 Post Road.
- Edgewater, N.J.: Spicy miso ramen with "melty" pork belly is the favorite dish at Santouka Ramen in Edgewater. In the Mitsuwa market, this no-frills place always delivers on flavor. Located at 595 River Road.
- Manhattan, N.Y.: Ippudo is Manhattan's ramen mecca. Be ready for the usual Manhattan wait by eating pork buns at the bar, but be sure and order the "akamaru modern" ramen when you do finally find a seat. Located at 65 4th Ave. (between East 9th and East 10th streets.).
