New White Plains Taxi Law Allows Cabs To Stop In Street

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- If you wanted to hail a cab in the White Plains business district, you were out of luck. But now, under a new law approved by the Common Council, cabbies are allowed to make pickups in the district, along with a slew of other new regulations, according to lohud.com.

Under new regulations by the White Plains Common Council, all city taxis will be painted white and have the new city logo seal on the side.

In addition to street pickups, the new law allows for replacement of fare zones with meters; drivers received a wage increase, the first in 14 years; cabs will all be painted white with a city medallion; requires drivers to submit to drug tests; and removes taxis after they reach 400,000, said lohud.com.

Many point to the taxi medallions as a highlight that signifies that the taxi is licensed to operate in the city in addition to the meters because of confusion over the former fare zone pricing, added lohud.com.
