The American Cancer Society says in new guidelines published Tuesday that women should have fewer mammograms than previously advised, newyorktimes.com reports.
According to the article, women should begin mammograms when they are older and have them less frequently, and said clinical breast exams without symptoms aren’t necessary anymore.
The revisions come on the heels of mounting evidence that mammography has drawbacks, including unnecessary biopsies, the article said.
