New iPhone Makes Long Lines at White Plains Mall

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Four days after the release of the Apple iPhone 4S customers continued to line up at the White Plains Apple Store at The Westchester mall.

Waits were as long as two hours for customers looking to purchase the phone without reservations, store employees said. A separate line for those who purchased reservations on the new phone waited as long as an hour.

"I left my house three hours ago for an iPhone," Kristina Lowell of White Plains said. "I've been in line for almost an hour but it's totally worth it."

The new iPhone 4S has been announced as an upgrade to its predecessor, the iPhone 4, with an improved internal camera and its most popular addition, the automated voice control function known as Siri.

"I've been buying iPhones for a few years and they just keep getting better," Lowell said. "I guess I'm a junkie."

Apple employees provided a special cart outside the store full of bottled water to accommodate the long waits for the new product. Customers looking to browse the store without purchasing the new phone were still permitted inside, but did not avoid the crowd typically seen inside the White Plains location.
