WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains police said a Rye man told officers he snorted a prescription nausea medicine in his Crowne Plaza Hotel room just before officers arrested and charged him with a cocaine-related felony early Tuesday morning.
Stephen Garrity, 33, of Rye had dilated pupils and "appeared incoherent, sweaty" and "shaky" when officers arrived at approximately 2:20 a.m., according to police reports.
Police said they believed he had used cocaine after seeing a chalky white substance spread across the table in the corner of the hotel room. Some of the powder was laid out in lines next to a driver's license, a room card key, and a pink plastic bag with a tinfoil package inside that police said is often used to store cocaine.
Police said Garrity told them he snorted the powder and called it a "prescription nausea medicine" before being treated by an EMS at the Crowne Plaza.
He was then sent to the White Plains Hospital with an elevated heart rate and discharged at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers discovered four more of the pink plastic bags on the floor beneath the hotel room desk next to a garbage bin with five pieces of tinfoil in it, according to police reports.
Police performed a field test on the powder found wrapped in one of the foil strips and determined it tested positive for cocaine.
Police reports indicate three grams of cocaine were found in Garrity's hotel room. He was arrested and charged with one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
