In 2015, physician Jamie A. Koufman said in The New York Times that late-night eating, especially a heavy meal, can screw up how our bodies digest what we eat, which in turn can prevent the body from absorbing the nutrients it needs, said the Business Insider.
In addition, a 2013 study of 420 overweight and obese people enrolled in a five-month weight-loss program, found that late eaters lost significantly less weight than early eaters, those who ate their main meal before 3 p.m., added the Business Insider.
What's a person to do? Start small -- if you normally don't eat a whole lot during the day, it might help to start snacking (healthy snack), and around 1 p.m., grab a light meal like a salad with fish or chicken so you don't overeat later, said the Business Insider.
