WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains will get to preview African diasporic art selected for the third annual Harlem Fine Arts Show at a fundraiser for the White Plains Youth Bureau on Jan. 12.
The exhibit will showcase more than 60 original pieces created for the Harlem Fine Arts Show that will premiere in New York City this February. Work from James Van Der Zee, a photographer who grew famous documenting the Harlem Renaissance, Andrew Nichols, Edwin Lester, Gwen Redfern, Brent Bailer, Minna Dunn and Sir Shadow will be displayed beside local students art at the Reckson Building.
Mayor Thomas Roach said he was pleased that the Friends of White Plains Youth Bureau and the Westchester Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Chapter organized the showing.
"We are thrilled to be bringing a preview of the Harlem Fine Arts Show to the City of White Plains, Roach said in a press release. "This partnership will also allow us to nurture our young talent from the White Plains community who are passionate about art and allow them to be a part of a program that is unique, educational, and inspirational.
The preview will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Benefit tickets can be purchased for $50 by calling Nicolette Johnson at (914) 422-1378.
A portion of the proceeds will go to the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. with the remainder being funneled into local youth programs via the Friends of the White Plains Youth Bureau.
