Furniture Sharehouse provides used furniture free of charge to people moving out of homeless shelters, fleeing abusive situations, aging out of foster care, or recovering from natural disaster.

The grant will be used to operate a large truck, which will allow the organization to reach an additional 75 families a year in addition to the 450 families they currently serve.

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of Impact100 Westchester’s inaugural grant,” said Kate Bialo, executive director of Furniture Sharehouse. “This amazing grant will allow us to give even more families a fresh start and help them rebuild their lives.”

Since 2007, Furniture Sharehouse has provided more than 41,000 items of furniture worth more than $2.4 million to more than 7,700 individuals, according to a press release. It has also recovered 1,500 tons of furniture meant for the waste stream.

Established in 2013, Impact100 Westchester’s missions include encouraging women to engage in philanthropy, raising funds for charitable initiatives throughout Westchester County, and highlighting local organizations for their good work.

Impact100 Westchester awarded a total of $132,000 to four Westchester based non-profit organizations, and Furniture Sharehouse was the winning recipient of the $100,000 grant.

Last fall, Impact100 Westchester began soliciting grant proposals from organizations working in the fields of education, environment, arts and culture, and health and wellness. Following the application process, finalists delivered presentations at the Impact100 Westchester Annual Meeting. Afterward, members voted and the $100,000 grant recipient was announced.

Clay Arts Center, Something Good in the World and Yonkers Partners in Education each received grants of $10,667.
