Empty Bomb Threat Evacuates Burke School

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A bomb threat forced Burke Rehabilitation Hospital to evacuate its Montessori pre-school for approximately two hours Tuesday.  An unknown caller claimed there was a bomb on campus and mentioned a "school" at about 1 p.m., according to Richard Sgaglio, a press representative for Burke.

Sgaglio said that although the caller didn't specifically mention Montessori, the hospital didn't want to take any risks. Approximately 65 students were moved to a different part of campus while public safety officials searched the Billings Building where the pre-schoolers are taught, he said.

White Plains Police and firefighters searched the building and then brought in a team of specially trained dogs. The building was deemed safe by approximately 3 p.m.

Public Safety Commissioner David Chong said the department was still investigating who made the "random" call.
