Emergency Blood Drive at White Plains Red Cross

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester’s American Red Cross is holding an emergency blood drive Friday to help replenish a low supply.

Allison Calver, a spokeswoman for the organization, said it has a "critically low blood supply" in an email.

Donors can stop by the Red Cross Friday at 106 North Broadway in White Plains from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Participants will be entered in a contest to win a pair of tickets to the Mets and Cardinals game at CitiField on July 19.

All blood types are needed, however those with type O negative are encouraged to donate because their blood can be given to patients with any blood type.

Before donating the Red Cross suggests getting a good night's sleep, drinking an extra two glasses of water, enjoying a healthy meal and eating iron-rich foods like spinach, red meat, fish, and beans.

Donors must bring identification.
