Previous attempts to grant such assistance had been unsuccessful. Several weeks after the meeting, Cuomo tried to raise support for the tax credit at events around the state, wrote Vielkind.
Cuomo also met with the leaders of three teacher unions, all of which strongly oppose the tax credits. State lawmakers did not enact Cuomo's proposal to grant financial assistance for the families, according to Vielkind.
In addition, the schedules show that Cuomo met with Jose Cabañas, the Cuban ambassador, before leading a trade mission to Cuba; he met with New York City mayor Bill de Blasio a month before de Blasio accused Cuomo of undermining his political plans, and was scheduled to have a telephone meeting with former vice-president Al Gore, as described by Vielkind.
