White Plains Cop Accused of Using Racial Slur Fired

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The White Plains officer reportedly accused of using a racial slur in the incident involving the death of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., has been fired, according to a report from The Journal News.

The officer who reportedly used a racial slur against Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. in the man's death in 2011 has been dismissed, according to The Journal News.

“It’s a small, but significant step in getting justice for the murder of my father,” Kenneth Chamberlain Jr. told The Journal News in the report after hearing of officer Steven Hart's dismissal. Public Safety Commissioner David Chong reportedly terminated Hart, according to the report from The Journal News.

Hart was reportedly told of the dismissal on Sept. 19, according to The Journal News.

On July 2, 2012, Kenneth Chamberlain Jr. filed a $21 million wrongful death lawsuit against the city, its police department, housing authority and all eight officers connected to the death of his father, Kenneth Chamberlain Sr. – a former U.S. Marine who was tasered and fatally shot after police forcibly entered his apartment in response to an accidentally triggered Life Alert necklace.

A judge ruled that the city must surrender 600 pages of confidential documents in July.
