The advisory, which was issued Tuesday night, remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. It coincides with the arrival of drenching rains associated with the same storm system that spawned Hurricane Patricia in the Pacific Ocean late last week.
Other coastal areas, including northwestern Suffolk and northern Nassau counties on Long Island and southern Fairfield and New Haven counties in Connecticut, also are affected by the advisory, according to the weather service.
The forecast calls for potential flooding in low-lying coastal areas along the western and central sections of the Long Island Sound. Tides are expected to swell up to 1¼ feet above their typically highest points.
According to forecasters, any flooding that does occur likely will be minor. Most major roads should remain unaffected.
