Temperatures were dropping 5 degrees per hour as an arctic air mass moves through the region, bringing a cold front with strong winds.
That made conditions favorable for the formation of areas of black ice on roads and walkways across Westchester, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut and northeast New Jersey from Monday night into Tuesday morning.
The overnight low from Monday into Tuesday will be about 4 degrees with wind chills of -10 due to 10 mph winds.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny with high temperatures of 15 degrees and continued wind chills as low as -10.
The overnight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of about 5 and wind chills as low as -5.
