White Plains Welcomes Warm Weather Streak

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – As temperatures approached the mid-60s Monday, Melissa Biffert, 33, decided to delay putting up Christmas decorations and take her 2-year-old Pierce and 9-month-old Silas to Gillie Park.

"It would feel funny putting up holiday decorations. That was the initial plan for today, but since it was so nice we decided to put the Christmas decorations on hold," said Biffert, a Gedney Manor resident. "It's definitely unheard of. We never get to enjoy the outdoor this late."

Biffert has been taking her sons to the Gillie Park on a daily basis since temperatures have warmed over the past few weeks. She hopes to continue visiting the Mamaroneck Avenue park as temperatures in White Plains creep above 50 this week.

According to the National Weather Service, White Plains may heat up to 63 degrees Tuesday and will likely get some rain before 4 p.m. Temperatures will gradually decrease over the rest of the week as highs are expected to hit 53 degrees Wednesday, 52 degrees Thursday, and 50 degrees Friday.

Others, including, Ron Kumar, 38, said his family was also hoping to savor the warm weather before it gets too cold to play outside.

"We came out today because it's so beautiful. It's a really good park. We've been coming for years," Kumar said about Gillie Park, which is one of few parks in White Plains that is fenced in. "We're always outside until it gets cold. Then, forget it."
