White Plains Building Inspector, Longo Dies at 68

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - Former Building Inspector for the City of White Plains, Vincent J. Longo died Oct. 17 in his home. The lifelong White Plains resident was 68.

Longo, a youth basketball and baseball coach and member of the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department, was born on Dec. 26, 1942 to the late Lucy and Frank Longo. On Jul. 2, 1965, he married Christina Capasella at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in White Plains. 

Prior to working for the city, he had a career in the local construction industry, working for Pappas Development and Toll Brothers. Longo enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, skiing, fishing and spending time at the beach. He could also be frequently seen attending his grandchildren's sports games.

Longo is survived by his wife of 46 years, Christina, his son Frank A. Longo with wife Rita of Harrison, his daughters Diane Storm with husband Lars of White Plains and Dorothy Athanas with husband Michael of Manchester, Mass., his sister Mary Rappa of White Plains and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Josephine Longo. 

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. at McMahon, Lyon & Harnett Funeral Home in White Plains. The funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at Chapel of the Divine Compassion Good Counsel Academy, with interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Church Community Center, 35 Orchard Street White Plains, NY 10603.
