Westchester Historical Society Presents Sy Schulman History Award

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The Westchester Historical Society presented Bronxville historian Robert M. Riggs and Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct with the Sy Schulman History Award on June 22.

Schulman, who died in 2012, was a member and trustee of the society. The award given in his honor recognizes one individual and one organization for their efforts in historic preservation and historical research.

Riggs was involved in the creation of the Bronxville Historical Conservancy in 1988, which has started numerous historical activities including organizing the Bronxville Centennial Celebration in 1988. Riggs and his colleagues are currently working on programs to mark the 350th anniversary of the founding of the Town of Eastchester.

The Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct are dedicated to preserving and protecting the 40-mile Aqueduct whose construction in Westchester started in 1837.
