White Plains resident Inesa Ziu wishes she could dote on her father Sunday. However, a phone call to her native Albania will have to do this Father's Day.
"My father is far away in Albania, but I will call him for sure," said Ziu, 21, who moved to White Plains to attend college two years ago. "We don't really have Father's Day there, but I figured it out when I came here."
Although Ziu may miss her dad this weekend, she will still be getting in plenty of family time. Her mother and cousin are visiting her until July 3.
"We missed Independence Day by one day," said Ziu, who recently finished Westchester Community College and will be studying mathematics at Stony Brook University in the fall.
Jammed weekend schedules had a few others in White Plains wishing they had more time to spend with their fathers and husbands. Christine Lai, a midwife for the city, said she and her husband will have to work around a wedding while celebrating his first Father's Day as a dad.
"We have a wedding so there're a lot of friends coming in from out of town and we'll probably honor Father's Day there," said Lai, who gave birth to her daughter Allie ten months ago.
Lai's family plans to eat a Father's Day meal together after the weekend.
