WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Bruce A. Regge of White Plains, died April 13. He was 79.
Born May 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Albert and Mildred (Smetana) Regge. A lifelong White Plains resident, Regge graduated from White Plains High School. In 1952, he was drafted into the US Army. Regge fought in the Korean War, rising to the rank of corporal, and came home a decorated veteran in 1954.
Regge then became a professional umpire and worked in the Georgia State League for a short time. He returned home where he had a 24-year career as a teamster with Dellwood Dairy and a 16-year career as a Communications Workers of America member with AT&T.
An ardent supporter of youth programs, Regge was an active Boy Scout leader for Troupe 7 and Explorer Post 7 for 30 years in the Washington Irving Council. For his achievements and long service, he received the coveted Silver Beaver Award.
Regge also coached the youth hockey program at Ebersole Rink for 10 years. He was a 10-year member and president of the Westchester Umpire Association. A Civil War buff, he toured nearly every battlefield park in the country.
He is survived by his companion, Joan Hurley, and her daughter, Christine LaLonde, to whom Regge was like a father. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Trask; two nephews and a niece.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at McMahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Church in White Plains, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
