More than half of respondents said they would have at least 10 people at their Thanksgiving table, and 74 percent involve their family, kids, friends and/or guests in the cooking and baking process.
Of parents with kids, 72 percent let little ones help with food prep, mostly stirring or mixing ingredients (43 percent) and taste testing (19 percent).
Guests are often asked to pitch in, too. Some 64 percent of cooks ask people to bring one or more dishes everyone loves -- like creamy mashed potatoes. The survey indicated 63 percent prefer mashed over baked, roasted, scalloped, twice-baked or boiled.
Other key findings show:
- 50 percent want mac ‘n cheese added to the Thanksgiving menu.
- 55 percent are likely to post photos of their favorite Thanksgiving dish on social media.
- 44 percent of people attend two or more Thanksgivings per year.
- 96 percent plan to eat leftovers from the Thanksgiving meal in the days following the holiday.
- 42 percent plan to incorporate leftovers into a new dish.
- Pumpkin pie is preferred over apple pie, 42 percent to 19 percent.
- Stuffing is the second most popular dish (22 percent) after turkey (41 percent); it’s loved more than sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes combined.
