Study: New York Among States With The Fewest Traffic Deaths

Drivers may feel relatively safe in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut knowing those states all ranked low in a new study of traffic deaths on United States roadways, according to Business Insider.

The study, conducted by the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, analzyed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Centers for Disease Control, Business Insider said.

New Jersey, New York and Connecticut all ranked among the lowest states for traffic deaths considering population, and rates of death that can be attributed to roadway crashes. New York and New Jersey both have a .8 percent of deaths attributed to traffic crashes, while Connecticut's percentage is .9, Business Insider said.

Some of the factors contributing to the divide among states with high versus low rates of traffic fatalities include economic and political considerations, as well as access to public transportation, Business Insider reported.
