New York's Edith Windsor Recalled For Impact On Gay Marriage

Gay couples accounted for 10 percent of summer weddings in 2015, and New York resident Edith Windsor, 86, was recalled in several reports and polls for her critical role, according to Market Watch.

The ruling in Windsor's case overturned the Defense of Marriage Act, the article said. In the 2013 case, “spouse” was redefined to include gay partners, changing the way they were legally treated. The year of the ruling, 21 percent of same-sex couples became legally wed.
