The "New York Family History Research Guide and Gazetteer," which published in January 2015, was three years in the making. It boasts 856 pages and devotes individual chapters to Westchester, Dutchess and Putnam Counties.
The book features 17 chapters detailing all of the major records used by genealogists (such as vital, court, land, tax, and census records) along with guides to each of New York’s 62 counties.
According to McKelden Smith, president of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society which produced the book, no state in the union has a family history resource guide like this.
Westchester County forms one of the biggest portions of the book as it's one of the largest and oldest counties. Same with Dutchess, which has been keeping records since the Colonial days
"It's got everything in there of interest to a family historian," said Smith, "Including names of towns that may or may not exist today."
More than 100 people participated in writing the book which incidentally, weighs almost four pounds.
