Many teens avoid active lifestyles due to not knowing how to properly exercise or being worried about being judged, said the release.
To combat this trend, the city YMCA branch will offer "Work Out Wednesdays" beginning Wednesday, June 8.
Teenagers can visit the YMCA to take two group exercise classes for free.
These will include:
Spinning and Zumba, Hip Hop Boot Camp, Body Conditioning and Strength, Cardio Combat.
In addition, teens can play Wallyball, a high intensity game which blends the teamwork of volleyball with the speed of racquetball.
"The Work Out Wednesdays will change weekly to give teens an opportunity to try a class they may have previously been apprehensive about trying – fear of the unknown," said Associate Executive Director, Heather Bell.
