Doughnut Day began in Chicago in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor the “Donut Lassies” who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. The main goal of the day was to raise funds for the needy during the Great Depression.
National Doughnut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June each year. Check with a Dunkin' Donuts near you and/or follow them on Twitter for up-to-date news. Many are offering a free sugar doughnut on National Doughnut Day to customers who visit their Facebook page.
