It's probably no coincidence that March 17 is also National Corned Beef and Cabbage Day, and it's a holiday when Americans not only wear green, but drop a lot of green.

About $4.4 billion will be spent on St. Paddy’s Day this year, way more than the $1.2 million market value of a pot of gold, according to WalletHub, who released its annual St. Patrick’s Day By The Numbers report as a follow up to its recent look at the Best & Worst Cities to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in 2016.

More than 33 million Irish-Americans will pay homage to St. Patrick, and more than half of the U.S. population is expected to celebrate. Other fun facts,

  • $35.4: Average amount each St. Patrick’s partier will spend.
  • 13 million: Pints of Guinness will be consumed worldwide on St. Patrick’s Day. 70%: Increase in cabbage shipments during St. Patrick’s week.
  • 82.1 percent: Of celebrators plan to wear green.
  • $62,141: Median income for Irish-American households (vs. $53,657 for all households).
  • 33.1 million: US residents claiming Irish ancestry (7 times the population of Ireland).
  • 1737: Year of the first St. Patrick's Day Parade (it was in Boston).
