White Plains' Church Welcomes World-Class Concert Pianists

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Downtown Music at Grace presents piano concertos of Beethoven and Mozart in collaboration with two young winners of the New York International Piano Competition on Sunday April 10, beginning at 5 p.m.

The 28th Annual Concerto Concert takes place at Grace Episcopal Church, 33 Church St. in downtown White Plains. 

World-acclaimed pianists Chelsea Wang and Larry Weng will play the Concerto No. 2 in B flat Major by Beethoven, Opus 19 and Mozart's Concerto, No. 17 in G Major, K. 453. 

Accompanying them will be the group "Downtown Sinfonietta" with conductor Vincent Lionti and members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. 

Chelsea Wang was awarded second prize at the 2012 Sixth New York International Piano Competition, a biennial event presented under the auspices of The Stecher and Horowitz Foundation. In addition to her cash prize, she appears on the Foundation's Young Artists Series, a program of concerts throughout New York, Connecticut and Washington D.C. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Wang has garnered national and international awards including Best Interpretation of a Bach Work at the 2010 Eastman Young Artist International Piano Competition and Best Interpretation of a Work by Franz Liszt at the 2009 Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition. 

Larry Weng is a laureate of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition, the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition for Young Musicians, the New York International Piano Competition, and the Kosciuzsko Foundation Chopin Competition. Weng has been featured in concert in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, China, Japan, Brazil and Venezuela, and has performed in many of the world’s renowned concert halls.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors over 65 years old, $15 for students age 25 and under with valid ID and $5 for children ages five to 12 with a parent.
