WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A common council meeting, a job club and a poetry slam are a few of the events happening in White Plains this week.
Monday, March 4
Teen Advisory Group: 4:30-5:30 p.m. White Plains teens, give your ideas on what you want to see in the library from movies to music to books. Help plan teen events and tell the library what you want from the library. Register online. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
Common Council Meeting: 7 p.m. The White Plains Common Council will hear from the public from 7-7:30 p.m. It will begin its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. City Hall, 255 Main St.
Tuesday, March 5
Job Club: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Discussion topics include writing resumes and cover letters, preparing for an interview, using the Internet and social media together with the library's resources to conduct a job search and tips on developing a strong professional network. White Plains Library, 100 Martine Ave.
Wednesday, March 6
Poetry SLAM and Open Mic: 6:30-9:30 p.m. Take part in the open mic or slam by registering between 6:30-7 p.m. and bring one original poem of up to three minutes. Local poet and slammaster Eric ZORK Alan will co-host with Jared Singer, a poet and audio engineer from New York who has represented the city with the Urbana Slam team at the National Poetry Slam. Thursday, March 7
"Lend Me a Tenor": 3:30 p.m. White Plains High School students will perform a Tony-nominated comedy written by Ken Ludwig beginning Thursday with a free preview performance. Performances continue at 7 p.m. Friday and 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for students, faculty members and senior citizens.
