Enjoy The Festival Of Lights With Westchester's Many Hanukkah Events

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Hanukkah falls early this year -- it begins at sunset, Sunday, Dec. 6 and lasts until Monday, Dec. 14.- and as always, Westchester County is ablaze with events. What follows is a sampling.

Ardsley: Come at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7 for a menorah lighting. Information: Corner of Saw Mill Road and Ashford Avenue.

Bedford: An annual menorah lighting with a special concert by The Maccabeats starts at 4 p.m. in the Bedford Historical Hall with a 5 p.m. lighting on the Bedford Village Green. Information: (914) 666-6065, www.chabadbedford.com/.

Briarcliff Manor: "Chanukah Mania" will be held Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 4:30 p.m. at Congregation Sons of Israel and includes Chanukah stories, songs and crafts along with a kid-friendly dinner. Information: 1666 Pleasantville Rd., (914) 762-2700, www.csibriarcliff.org/.

Croton-on-Hudson: Temple Israel of Northern Westchester presents Rick Recht in concert Sunday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. Information: 31 Glengary Rd., (914) 271-4705, www.tinw.org/.

Dobbs Ferry: Shop for gifts at Chabad's Chanukah Fun House and Gift Store going on now through Wednesday, Dec. 9. Special events are also part of the pop-up with family-friendly activities like face painting and a dreidel competition. Information: 303 Broadway, (914) 693-6100, www.chabadrt.org/.

There will also be a village menorah lighting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the corner of Cedar and Main Streets.

Irvington: Chabad will take over Main Street Sunday, Dec. 6 for a Chanukah Village celebration complete with music, food, story time, doughnut making and a photo booth. It concludes with a menorah lighting at 4 p.m. at the Main Street Fire Station.

Hastings: Menorah lighting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 in front of VFW on Warburton Avenue.

Larchmont/Mamaroneck: Chabad of Larchmont and Mamaroneck will light up the night with its "Chanukah Glow in the Dark Spectacular" Sunday, Dec. 6 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the lighting (at 5:30 p.m.) of the giant menorah. A kosher food truck, game bus and other crafts will also be available. On Sunday, Dec. 13 you can help carve and light a giant ice menorah at Hommocks Park Ice Rink. Also in Larchmont: The highly successful “Latkes & Laughs” show based out of San Jose, CA is coming to Bonnie Briar Country Club on Thursday, Dec. 10. Tarrytown: The JCC on the Hudson offers two programs on Sunday, Dec. 13. At 2:15 p.m. Rich Moneybags: A Chanukah Story (geared to ages three to 10 with adult) will be performed. At 3 p.m., there will be a Chanukah candle-lighting and sing-along with Greg Shafritz. Admission is free but guests are asked to bring a non-gender-specific, gently-used toy for Blythdale Children’s Hospital. Information: 371 S. Peekskill: Enjoy a family dinner with songs and games with the First Hebrew Congregation on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Cost is $18 per person or $10 for children under 13. Information: 1821 East Main St., (914) 739-0500; www.firsthebrew.org.

Pleasantville: Make candy dreidels, enjoy latkes and take part in the festivities at the "Bring in the Light" celebration at the Rosenthal JCC Sunday, Dec. 13 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Information: 600 Bear Ridge Rd., (914) 741-0333, www.rosenthaljcc.org/.

Yonkers: Ridge Hill's annual menorah lighting takes place Sunday, Dec. 6 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fountain Plaza. There will be jelly donuts from Beigels Kosher Bakery along with arts and crafts and  music by White Shabbos.

Also in Yonkers: A community-wide menorah lighting at the Cross County Shopping Center on Monday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. The event will include a musical concert and family-friendly activities including dreidels and donuts. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Rabbi Hurwitz from the Chabad of Yonkers, along with other city officials, will light the menorah at 6:30 p.m.  Information: 8000 Mall Walk, Yonkers (junction of NY State Thruway and Cross County Parkway) on The Green, in the center of the mall near Victoria’s Secret.
