Depression Screening To Be Held In White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Free, confidential screenings for depression will be held at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s White Plains campus Oct. 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those who wish to be screened will take a self-test and meet with a mental health professional for a one-on-one interview in the hospital’s center building conference room D, at 21 Bloomingdale Road. Referrals for treatment will be offered, if necessary, and educational materials will be available.

Common symptoms of depression include persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness and helplessness, difficulty in sleeping, changes in appetite, and a lack of pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable. Depression may also be characterized by thoughts of death and suicide. It is a diagnosable illness that can be treated, according to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Westchester Division.
